Is Walmart Really That Cheap?
Everyone loves Walmart… however, it may be time to reconsider that love. While it’s true there are some things in Walmart that are cheaper than say, Target, some very important items are much more expensive than you might think. Here are 10 things that everyone believes are cheaper at Walmart, but unfortunately the truth is that they’re more expensive.
Appliances
Many a person has bought an inexpensive appliance from Walmart while shopping for groceries and many a person has lived to regret it. The prices aren’t really any better than the prices at your average home store, and crucially, the appliances have been known to break a lot.
Fresh Produce
Walmart might give off good vibes with their fruits and vegetables, but their produce isn’t always as cheap, or as fresh, then it is at local grocery stores or farmers’ markets. Really it’s better to go to the farmers’ market instead if it’s low prices you’re looking for.
Heavy Cream
Sure, heavy cream might seem cheap at Walmart, especially when you’re about to do some baking. But their tubs are often the same price (or higher) than they are at Aldi. And sometimes the quality of Walmart heavy cream isn’t great, either.
Printer Ink
Some people simply don’t have printers anymore because the cost of ink is so high. But if you’re thinking of stocking up on printer cartridges at Walmart, don’t. Ink there is notorious for being expensive – you can get cheaper options online or direct from the manufacturer
Diapers
Having a baby? Be prepared to spend a lot, because diapers aren’t cheap. And they’re especially not cheap at Walmart. Their branded packs can end up costing more per diaper than buying a packet from Amazon or Costco. Costco is especially recommended by retail experts if you want inexpensive diapers.
Meat
Walmart really isn’t the best place to go for meat. It’s more expensive than it is at Costco (yep, there’s Costco again) and also some think that Walmart don’t store their meat very well, leading to a poorer quality product. Best to avoid the Walmart meat aisle and go elsewhere.
Furniture
Many people are tempted to buy their furniture from Walmart, because the prices seem low. However, you get what you pay for - thin materials and questionable quality. Plenty of people have bought furniture from Walmart only to have it break within the year. It’s just not worth it.
Hawaiian Pizza
The debate about whether pineapple belongs on pizza rages on, but don’t try and argue by buying a Hawaiian pizza from Walmart. According to those who have been there, Walmart Hawaiian pizzas taste weird and don’t even have enough pineapple on them.
Tech Bundles
Walmart loves bundling gadgets, but those bundles aren’t always deals. You might end up paying more for extras you don’t need or that are lower quality. Buying items separately in an electronics store sale is usually the better bet.
Maple Syrup
Sure, you can live without maple syrup, but do you want to? However, you might want to reconsider buying it from Walmart. According to retail experts, you can get your maple syrup from Sam’s Club at a much cheaper price.
