The Best Meats
Fast food is part of life for a great deal of Americans, but it has its downsides. How do you know the exact quality of the meat you’re putting into your mouth? Has the animal the meat came from been stuffed full of antibiotics, which many people are extremely worried about? And what about the actual flavor? Here are the most popular sandwich chains ranked by the quality of their meat, worst to best.
Subway
Subway holds a curious position in the world of sandwich-based fast food. You won’t find many people who rate it highly in terms of either meat or bread, yet it continues to be wildly popular. Critics say that the meat tastes terrible, and its one redeeming feature is that it’s not treated with antibiotics anymore.
Panera Bread
Panera Bread meat doesn’t taste as bad as Subway often does but it’s still not great. It recently removed a “no antibiotics or hormones in the meat” policy, which is definitely a concern to customers. If you’re a meat-eater who nonetheless has animal welfare concerns you probably shouldn’t eat at Panera Bread.
Jimmy John’s
Jimmy John’s slice their meat in-house and they’re very proud of the fact. However, that doesn’t mean the meat is necessarily going to taste good. Many people have been to the outlet and reported on social media that they really weren’t impressed. It seems to be a case of inconsistency – some Jimmy John’s outlets have fresh, tasty meat and others just don’t.
Quiznos
Quiznos is doing average on the meat front. It’s not bad, but some people say it’s a little too salty and the texture is all off. Others also add that you don’t actually get a whole lot of meat for what you pay for.
Potbelly Sandwich Works
Potbelly Sandwich Works is definitely one of the better places to go to if you want a meat sandwich, but some say the meat is “slimy” or overly processed, and has been for at least four years now. What started off as a great chain has, in some people’s eyes, declined in quality. Still, it definitely has its fans.
Which Wich
Which Wich offers lots of customization, a big plus for the hardcore sandwich fans, and their meats are decent if not great. The turkey and ham are just average, but some have said that the roast beef is better than they expected.
Jason’s Deli
Some sandwich fans online say that they’re very happy with the quality of meat at Jason’s Deli, while others don’t like it. It’s probably not the place for a serious meat fanatic, but it’s certainly better than some of the others on this list. And it’s also free of nitrates, a big plus.
Firehouse Subs
Firehouse Subs isn’t as popular as some of the other outlets on this list, but it really deserves to be. It’s meat isn’t the highest quality possible but it’s considered pretty good, and the meatball sub and brisket sandwich are both delicious. Meats are sliced fresh daily, too!
Cheba Hut Toasted Subs
Here we have an outlet with some of the best meat available. The meats are sliced in-house and a huge emphasis is put on freshness. The restaurant also offers nitrate-free options. All in all, you should definitely try Cheba Hut if you haven’t already, it’s so much better than Subway!
Jersey Mike’s Subs
Jersey Mike’s Subs takes the number one spot. Their meat is always fresh, their bacon is to die for, and they have a few antibiotic-free options on the menu. Oh, and the cheese is high-quality as well. If you’re a newcomer to the world of sandwiches, get yourself down to Jersey Mike’s and you may never want to try anything else.
