That McDonalds Life
McDonalds is beloved to virtually everyone in the USA. It’s not just a fast food restaurant, it’s a vital part of American culture. But be warned… it’s really not good for you. Here, we take a deep dive into the McDonalds menu and point out the items you shouldn’t order.
Chicken Sandwiches
Surveys have shown that people rank McDonalds chicken sandwiches pretty low in comparison to other chicken-serving fast food places. There’s that… plus you might remember the disgusting urban legend about a woman biting into a McDonalds chicken sandwich and finding pus from a tumor.
Big Macs
Big Macs are one of the most popular items on the McDonalds menu. But they’re not great in many ways. Sometimes they taste, for lack of a better word, soggy (although some folks seem to like that?) and they’re a Mcwhopping 590 calories.
Small Fries
Many people report that small fries just aren’t worth the price. They’re really small – you don’t get your money’s worth. You should order the medium or large fries instead. And be warned if you’re ordering from online – they’ll sometimes arrive cold.
A Cheeseburger Meal
The trouble here is food waste. People go into McDonalds and order a cheeseburger meal, not realizing it includes not one, but two cheeseburgers. Most people can’t manage two cheeseburgers and thus the second one gets thrown away.
Frappes
McDonalds Frappes are popular, but they’re also expensive, filled with calories (650 to be exact), and some say they’re not really all that high quality. Why not get a Frappe from a small, independent coffee shop instead? You’ll feel good about yourself and you’ll have a nice drink in your system!
Late Breakfast
Lots of people love McDonalds breakfast food, popping in for a quick hash brown or Egg and Cheese McMuffin on their way to work. But you need to be warned – McDonalds stops serving breakfast food at 10:30 on weekdays, and if you order it after 10 it’ll have sat around for ages and won’t be high quality.
Big Breakfast With Hotcakes
This breakfast meal looks delicious on the menu. It consists of a warm biscuit, a sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and hotcakes with a side of butter. But the eggs sometimes taste a bit rubbery, and worse – the meal is 1,340 calories. That’s about half your daily intake!
10 Piece McNuggets
McNuggets are another beloved McDonalds item, with kids especially loving them. But the 10-piece bag costs $4.39, while the 20-piece bag is a better deal at $6.89. So if you have two kids with you at McDonalds, it’s better to get them a 20-piece bag and let them share.
Double Bacon Quarter Pounder With Cheese
This McDonalds item has been slammed for not being worth the money - $10 for a meal. It’s not good for you, either. It’s 850 calories - eat too many of them a week and you’ll soon start to see unpleasant side effects. Why not make your own, healthier burgers at home instead?
4-Piece Chicken Nugget Happy Meal
The chicken nugget Happy Meal is a good choice for parents with children, as it also comes with healthy fruit and milk. And a toy, of course! But make sure you order the 6-piece meal, not the 4-piece – it’s a better deal.
Milkshakes
McDonalds advertise milkshakes on their menu, but in truth they’re hardly ever available, because the machines that make them require so much cleaning. And they’re so full of calories! Plus, as with everything else on this list, having them on a regular basis will make you seriously unhealthy. You just flat-out shouldn’t be going to McDonalds every day.
